ASSU: OSibanjo leads gvt negotiation with striking lecturers


The federal government seems to be ready to resolve its differences with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

As a result, it is sending a delegation led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to meet with the striking lecturers.



The lecturers have been on strike for about two weeks demanding implementation of previous agreements, full payment of salaries and improved government funding for public universities.


The Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council meeting, confirmed that Osinbajo will now lead the negotiations.

A scheduled meeting between the lecturers and the government could not hold on Tuesday as ASUU said there was no reason for it.

The meeting was called to address the concerns raised in an earlier agreement between the government and the lecturers for which the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
