Mental Reorientation on private and Public (Government) belongings and life in general is the key
As
an undergraduate of public administration and local government, I have learnt
the various problems facing the Nigerian government and compared it with the
state of development of other countries, and I observed that it is behavioural problems that have kept Nigerian economy the way we see it. Our
attitude towards life, public utility, environment, work, education and fellow
human beings is condemn-able. This of poor attitudes have contributed in
precipitating our current economic and political problems. About 50% of public workers in Nigeria have
this mentality that government work is no man’s work and the citizens as well
seeing government properties as no body’s property and this have caused most of
the public workers to indulge in unethical conduct at work like corruption,
deliberate deception, commercial runs, sale of information(espionage), taking
home work stationary etc.
I think it is very pertinent to have a
mindset/ mental reorientation program on the way we see government belongings, the way we see ourselves and every office and en-devour we find ourselves. If this wrong perception the
citizens have about public belongings and life in general can be changed, I am very sure it will
improve the general functioning of Nigerian economy. But as long as this
mindset still remain with us, even if we ask the great Americans to
come over to Nigeria and inherit all our problems and then ask all Nigerians
to move over to America and inherit all the great Americans have built and accumulated, the great Americans would be able to
lift the present state of Nigeria from poor economy and underdevelopment to the
word’s highest economy in five years, on the other hand
Nigerian would still destroy all that America has built over the years and make it
one of the unstable economic and political country of the world. And this will be as a result of of our attitude.
This is the extent to which I think the
mindset reorientation on public belongings program is very important to lift
the economy of my country Nigeria and improving the standard of living of the
entire citizens.
The impact of the program can be measured obviously on
the positive turn around in the economic situation of the country in time to
come.
